A NORTH Yorkshire health trust has mounted a search in India to find radiologists because of an acute shortage in Britain.
Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Trust, which covers hospitals at Scarborough, Whitby, Malton and Bridlington, sent two senior staff to Madras to look for recruits.
Ian Renwick and John Dunn were hoping to hire three radiologists.
Mr Dunn said "The trust should have six, but we have only four, and another is leaving in the next few weeks.
"There is a national shortage of radiologists in Britain. During our visit to Madras, we visited a number of hospitals and interviewed several radiologists who want to work in England."
