VOLUNTARY and community groups are to meet to review plans for the future of a town.

A public consultation is being carried out on a draft of a community strategy for Chester-le-Street.

The strategy takes a long-term look at the district's social, economic and environmental wellbeing through initiatives such as developing environmentally-friendly modes of transport, keeping the streets clean and attractive and improving skills.

The strategy is being developed by the Local Strategic Partnership, made up of local organisations such as police, health authorities, councils and community groups.

Voluntary and Community groups on the partnership board will be looking at the latest draft on Wednesday, January 14, at the Chester-le-Street and District Central Volunteer Service and Volunteer Bureau, between 10.30am and 1pm. The meeting will be followed by lunch at Bullion Hall.
