POLICE investigating the death of a baby boy who was struck by a car have appealed for people to come forward.
Eight-month-old Callum Taylor died in Newcastle General Hospital last week, several days after he suffered serious head injuries when a Volkswagen Passat hit his pushchair on Saturday, December 27.
The vehicle had been travelling along Station Road, in West Cornforth, County Durham, over a disused railway crossing when the car skidded across the road and mounted the footpath.
Officers from Durham Police would like to speak to a number of passers-by who were in Station Road at about 2pm when the accident happened.
They include two couples, who were walking up the hill on the West Cornforth side of the crossing, and a cyclist who was riding in the same area.
PC Malcolm Thomas said: "We do not think they will have witnessed the accident itself, but they may have seen the Passat as it drove past."
Witnesses are asked to call 0191-375 2159.
The driver of the Passat, Paul Lee, 25, of Baltic Road, Gateshead, appeared in court last week charged with a number of offences, including driving while disqualified.
A meeting between police and the Crown Prosecution Service was held yesterday to discuss the possibility of new charges ahead of his next court appearance, in Newton Aycliffe, tomorrow.
