A 24-YEAR-OLD man was found dead in his home in an incident attended by armed police at the weekend.
Wheelchair-bound George Jacobson had called police when his son, Stuart, barricaded himself in his bedroom on Saturday.
Northumbria Police sent armed response units to the family's ground-floor home in Percy Court, Percy Main, North Shields, Tyneside.
As the firearms team arrived, they heard a shot.
An inquiry is now under way into the events which led to 24-year-old Stuart's death.
A report is being prepared for the North Tyneside Coroner, and police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
Police would not comment on the type of weapon found at the house, but it was believed to be a shotgun.
A 20-year-old woman who lives nearby said: "We heard loads of car doors slamming at about 8.30pm.
"I looked outside and the street was full of police cars and vans.
"There were armed officers taking cover behind their cars aiming at the house.
"They were telling residents to stay indoors and not to go outside.
"They had also cordoned off the road and were not letting people up. It was quite frightening because we did not know what was going on."
An inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned pending inquiries.
