HOUSEHOLDERS across Hartlepool are being urged to recycle their Christmas trees by taking advantage of a free collection service.
The kerbside scheme is being run by Hartlepool Borough Council as part of its commitment to promote recycling and the environment.
Collections started on Monday and will continue, ward by ward, until Wednesday.
Householders should put their trees out on the day of collection and the council will do the rest. The trees will be shredded before being spread on parks and gardens across the town.
Last year, 1309 trees were collected, providing 30 tonnes of material for use on parks and gardens.
The next collections will take place in Jackson and Grange today, and in Park, Brinkburn and Rifthouse tomorrow.
On Monday, collections will take place in Stranton and Seaton. On Tuesday there will be collections in Owton and Fens, and in Rossmere, Greatham and Newton Bewley on Wednesday.
