A COMMUNITY is working to give its village hall a new lease of life.
The latest fundraising event for Newton-le-Willows Village Hall is a table-top sale on Saturday, January 17, between 9am and 1pm.
Organiser Christine Godden said: "Stunned by the closure of their village pub, shop and post office in rapid succession, people realise they still have a valuable community asset in the village hall.
"It was built in the thirties and badly needed updating, but people were undaunted and began a series of community and fundraising events.
"Then the hall was flooded and the floor had to be replaced, so that the planned table-top sale was cancelled.
''When the new floor was installed, many villagers banded together to redecorate the main hall. It is now an attractive and airy room and the table-top sale has been rescheduled.''
