Worthington CIU Snooker League: There was no festive spirit for Spennymoor A when they played their re-arranged match at Shotton Palms for they went down to their first defeat of the season when they lost the decider.
This result left them trailing Wheatley Hill A by two points at the top of the First Division.
Paul Hickman gave Shotton a good start with a win in the first frame but Michael Pratt levelled when he put in breaks of 41 and 38. However Jimmy Evans senior pulled Shotton back into the lead by inflicting only the second defeat of the season on Paul Biddle. However Paul Atkinson squared the match when he retained his unbeaten record with breaks of 33 and 31. In the decider, Jimmy Evans junior pulled Shotton through to victory when he beat Eddie Rhodes.
In the other re-arranged match, Old Shildon travelled to Witton Gilbert and went down in the decider. John Rooney junior gave the home side the lead with a 41 break but Old Shildon fought back to go ahead with wins from Martin Taylor and Paul Armstrong. Paul Nord levelled the match and then Witton went to victory when Willis Joynes beat Peter Coates in the decider.

Ithe final matches of the Second Round, Fishburn B pulled off a giant-killing act when they beat their First Division visitors, Wingate, who were the cup holders. The Third Division side received 41 points start and Alan Wilson extended this to 46 by winning the first frame. Dean Jones closed the gap to just four points with an excellent frame, which included a 30 break. However both George Whitelock and Dave Blyth hit top form for Wingate and went 116 ahead. The deficit looked impossible for John Bourne when he played Fishburn's Wayne Oliver but he put in a 59 break and only failed by 28 points to produce a miracle.
The cup runners-up, Willington also went out at the second hurdle when they lost at Newton Aycliffe. The visitors received ten points start and Stan Bennett extended this to 14 after the first frame. Mark Howe played an excellent frame for the home side to shift them into a 16 points lead only to see Gordon Parkin restore the Willington team to a five points lead. Michael Hewitt took the fourth frame to move the home side ahead by five and then John Briddick played a captain's part for Newton Aycliffe by taking the final frame by 36 points to put Newton Aycliffe through.
