Newton Aycliffe: Chris Gaffney produced his best run to date in the Great North Winter junior cross country run held at the Town Moor, Newcastle, on Saturday, January 3.
Held in conjunction with the televised international races, 11-year-old Chris ran the perfect race over the one-mile circuit to finish strongly in third place in a time of 5minutes 15seconds, behind the winner D Miles of Lanarkshire, Scotland. In second was D Robson of Sunderland Harriers.
Chris and the other junior runners are now gearing themselves up for the county schools trials at Bishop Auckland on January 17.
