RESIDENTS at almshouses are hoping for a return of musical entertainment following the donation of a Wurlitzer organ.
Retired ICI employee Stan Nelson has given his Wurlitzer to the residents of Sir William Turner's Almshouses at Kirkleatham, near Redcar.
"I enjoyed playing it for a number of years," he said, "and I am pleased that it will provide enjoyment to a new group of people."
Musical evenings used to be a regular feature of the social life of the 30 almshouse residents, but they were suspended during a two-year renovation scheme while the old common room was demolished and a new one built. Sadly, just as they were ready to re-start, the previous organist, a resident of the almshouses, died.
"We would very much like to hear from anyone who would be willing to lead a regular singalong session, perhaps once a month," said Peter Sotheran, chairman of the board of trustees.
Musicians or small groups and choirs who are willing to entertain residents should contact the warden, Mrs Simpson, or Mr Sotheran on 01642 482828.
