THERE has rarely been any shortage of rugby talent coming out of Teesside and the third member of the Yarm-based Simpson-Daniel family is to follow his two elder brothers into the England Under 19 team.
Mark, a scrum half now with Sale, is said to be equally as talented as James, the Gloucester winger who would almost certainly have been in England's World Cup squad had he not contracted glandular fever last year.
There is also a fourth brother, 16-year-old Charlie, coming through the Sedbergh School ranks. He is following Mark and eldest brother Chris, the former Newcastle Falcons player, by playing at scrum half.
The Under 19s face Scotland at Fylde next Friday and also in the team is Barnard Castle School centre Matthew Tait, from Wolsingham.
There also matches against Ireland at Broadstreet on March 5 and Wales at Morley on March 12 prior to an IRB tournament in Durban.
Chris Simpson-Daniel played for the junior teams at Middlesbrough, a club which has also spawned the likes of former England fly halves Phil Horrocks Taylor, Alan Old and Rob Andrew.
Chris contemplated a return to action with his home club last season, but the knee injury which ended his Premiership career was too serious for him to take the risk.
Meanwhile Boro and neighbours Stockton are both seeking revenge in North Two East derby matches tomorrow.
As they hot up their pursuit of the play-off place for a return to North One, Boro entertain Redcar, where they suffered one of only two league defeats this season.
Boro were short of forwards on that occasion but are boosted this time by the return of No 8 Dean Gardiner and prop Dale Sawdon, while Ian Bradford replaces John Dixon at lock.
Mark Hatfield switches to blind side and Chris Horton to loose head at the expense of groundsman John Buddington. Student Ali Little returns at fly half in place of Ian Bircham.
Stockton are out to avenge the 14-9 defeat they suffered at home to West Hartlepool on November 1 before they started to climb away from the bottom.
They are now only two places and two points behind fifth-placed West and have skipper Alan Brown back in action against the club he served in the top-flight during the 1990s.
Winger Dave Braney returns for Stockton after recovering from illness and his replacement, Andy Bare, stands by to play at full back as there is a doubt about Graham Kell. Otherwise the squad is unchanged.
Horden, who have slipped to fourth from the bottom, need to halt their slide by winning at home to Bridlington.
In National Three North Darlington are seeking a sixth successive home win against bottom club Longton. Dan Oselton has gone back to Bath University, but Paul Shepherd returns to provide front row cover in what is likely to be an unchanged team.
Darlington will be hoping that Preston Grasshoppers, one of the teams below them, follow last week's hammering at Darlington Mowden Park with a home defeat by Blaydon. Mowden, meanwhile, visit Macclesfield, who have done better than expected after being promoted with Darlington last season.
* Durham School prop Craig Hooper and lock Gareth Eddy (English Martyrs) are in the North Under 16 team to play the South West at Castlecroft today. With a match against London and the South East to follow on Sunday they are joined in the squad by Thomas Young (Bedale High), Hamish Clapp (Barnard Castle), Tom Dixon (English Martyrs) and Chris Bradley (Durham School).
