PEOPLE in Darlington making a New Year resolution to discover more about their family history can find help at the Crown Street Library.
The Darlington Centre for Local Studies, which is based in the library, can supply information and advice about tracing ancestors using information from old censuses, church registers, newspapers, directories, maps and the national index to the registrars' records of births, marriages and deaths.
Stephen Harker, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for education, said: "As the New Year starts many people make resolutions for all kinds of things such as losing weight, doing more exercise and much more.
"Tracing your family history is something that is growing in popularity as information becomes more accessible through the internet.
"The Centre for Local Studies provides an ideal starting point on this journey." The service at the library is free and the centre is open from 9am until 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9am until 5pm on Wednesdays and Fridays and from 9am until 4pm on Saturdays.
The centre can also be contacted by telephoning (01325) 349630.
