TWO 11-year-olds from the North-East are celebrating after winning a national bridge competition.
Richard Hall and Alexander Puddick, both pupils at Yarm Preparatory School, Teesside, won the National Junior Bridge Competition after taking part in the regional heat at the St George's Bridge Club in Darlington.
The results from the regional heat and the rest of the heats, taking place around the country, were then put into a national database, and Richard and Alexander had the overall highest score.
Deputy headteacher Philip Hardy said: "We only started bridge here a year ago and it is a fantastic achievement for these two to become national champions. They are absolutely delighted - but shocked at the same time."
The pair received certificates to mark their achievement and goody bags containing gift vouchers and book tokens.
