AN exhibition of hand-made textiles from the Gujarat province of India has gone on display in Durham.
The collection of Gujarati textiles belongs to Kanchan Malde, whose mother was a skilled embroiderer and made many of the hangings that are on show at the Oriental Museum, in Durham.
The textiles traditionally feature beadwork, embroidery and mirror-work, and in India are used in hangings, furnishings for homes and palaces, clothing, animal harnesses and religious items.
The items in the exhibition have been collected by Mrs Malde for about 40 years. She also makes her own textiles.
She will be sharing her expertise during workshops that will be held at the museum at the end of next month.
Mirror, Bead and Thread opens today and runs until March 24.
