THE first people to enjoy cut-price tickets at a North-East attraction have been taking advantage of the scheme.
Until March 31, prices for locals to visit HMS Trincomalee, in Hartlepool's Historic Quay, are being reduced from £5.50 to £2 for adults and £1 for concessions. Under-fives get free entry.
Bryn Hughes, the general manager of the quay trust, said: "As part of our wish to make the ship more accessible, the trust is delighted to reduce prices for local people during this period.
"We hope that many will come along to see the ship, now restored to her former glory by the craftsmen of the town, and perhaps join the growing band of support through the Friends of HMS Trincomalee."
The quay allows people to savour the sights, sounds and smells of 18th Century seaport life, with attractions such as shops, a children's adventure playship and an interactive fighting ships attraction.
Claire Munroe, of Hartlepool Borough Council's arts and museums service, said: "The quay is nationally recognised as one of the finest tourist attractions of its kind in the country, and it offers people of all ages a lively and fascinating day out, which makes learning tremendous fun."
It is open to the public every day from 11am to 4pm.
To obtain the discount, people need to take proof of address.
