A CHURCH that has undergone restoration work held a dedication service at the weekend to mark its re-opening.
St Andrew's Church, in Haughton, Darlington, faced a bleak future in 2000 after building experts warned of serious problems.
They said wiring in the building was dangerous and in need of repair.
Church leaders set about rallying support from the community, as well as a number of grant-giving organisations, to raise the £105,000 needed to bring the building up to standard.
Rewiring work was carried out over the past three months and changes were made to the West Tower, which included the re-opening of the Norman door.
The church has also been made more accessible to wheelchair users.
On Saturday, the success of the appeal was celebrated at a dedication service, led by the rector, the Reverend David Bryan.
Darlington Mayor Councillor Ron Lewis attended the service, which included a performance by Richmond Town Pipes and Drums.
