A NORTH-EAST woman has paid £1,400 for a rare signed photograph of Adolph Hitler at an auction at the weekend.
The unnamed buyer beat off a postal bid from the US at the sale by Newcastle auction house Corbitts.
A would-be buyer narrowly missed the sale and was left disappointed, saying the item's value was nearly £5,000.
Other items sold included a signed Humphrey Bogart print, which made £500.
Football memorabilia included a signed Pele shirt bought by a collector from Tynemouth for £350.
Sunderland supporter Peter Whillians, of Durham, paid £380 for a programme for the 1937 FA Cup final, in which Sunderland beat Preston 3-1.
