VOLUNTEERS are needed to help a service which offers confidential support to victims, witnesses and their families when they attend court.
The Witness Service offers free help to those involved in both prosecution and defence. cases
A spokesman for the Witness Service said: "In order to maintain this valued service, we urgently need volunteers.
"We are currently looking for people who are non-judgemental, have good communication skills, can ensure confidentiality and demonstrate empathy and diplomacy."
The Witness Service operates in all magistrates' courts throughout County Durham and Darlington, as well as Durham Crown Court.
Training is provided and starts on Wednesday, January 28. Volunteers will be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses, including travelling.
