A SECTION of road has been closed to allow construction work on a new bus way to proceed.
The one-mile stretch of Keelman's Way, in Gateshead, between Askew Road, in Teams, to the Swing Bridge, is expected to re-open in the late summer or autumn.
It has been temporarily closed to enable construction to continue on the new bus-only road which will run along the riverside.
The work is part of Gateshead's CentreLink project to provide high-speed bus links between Gateshead town centre and the MetroCentre.
The cycleway will be retained as part of the construction work.
During construction, signposted diversions are in place to offer cyclists an alternative route along existing cycleways, footpaths and lightly-used roads through the centre of Gateshead, rejoining Keelman's Way close to Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
Alternatively, cyclists could cross the River Tyne at Scotswood Bridge and follow the riverside route along the north bank of the Tyne.
