A HOSPITAL takes its first step towards Foundation status later this week when it hosts a meeting to give local people a chance to have their say on the proposals.
Leading members of the Harrogate community have been invited to Thursday's gathering at the Christ Church Parish Hall and those who show an interest will have the chance to join a working party to help develop plans for a formal application.
However, the trust has emphasised full consultation with the public from across the Harrogate district begins next month to establish a vision for a Foundation Trust and how the new-style hospital could run.
"The foundation application procedure provides us with a superb opportunity to ensure the services we offer are exactly those the community wants," said trust chief executive, Miles Scott.
"That is why feedback is so important, and why anyone who has a view to contribute will be heard.''
If the bid is successful, Harrogate District Hospital could acquire foundation status by October this year.
In the meantime, Mr Scott and trust chairman Albert Day have offered to visit local groups interested in learning more about the implications.
Those interested can telephone (01423) 885959 or write to Harrogate District Hospital, Lancaster Park Road, Harrogate HG2 7SX.
Thursday's meeting at the Christ Church Parish Centre begins at 5.30pm.
