POLICE have arrested 45 people during a successful operation in Redcar.
Operation Feast, which ran from November 30 to January 5, was launched to tackle shoplifting and retail crime over the festive season.
Police, including the mounted section, worked in partnership with Redcar Business Association, as well as shops and businesses, who used a shoplink radio system to stop criminals.
Inspector Andrew Bright, from Redcar police, said: "We are delighted with the results.
"We maintained a high-profile to give reassurance to the public and made 45 arrests, which included men, women, youths and older people."
l Police are warning people following reports of purses and wallets being snatched in Redcar High Street.
Inspector Bright said: "We would advise people to keep purses and wallets out of sight, and cards separate from house keys. Handbags should be securely over the arm and in their owner's sight.
