NEALE Cooper is seeking an end to Hartlepool United's away day blues by making his move in the transfer market.

Despite seeing his side move into sixth place in Division Two, the Pool boss is on the hunt for new faces to strengthen his defence.

Pool have conceded only six League goals at home this season - the second best record in English football - but have leaked 24 away from Victoria Park, which is one of the highest tallies in the division. And it's that statistic which Cooper wants to see ended.

Pool go to Tranmere on Saturday and he said: "I'm still looking for players, that's always the case, but there's nothing happening right now - there's no-one definite.

"At left back we've got Matty Robson and John Brackstone and that's a position we are looking to strengthen.

"Bracca did well on Saturday, but we could do with a bit of experience in there and that would benefit both players.

"Sometimes we lack that bit of experience, especially away from home. But they are young boys and are improving all the time.

"They both had a run-out on Saturday - I put Matty on because Peterborough put a quick winger on and Matty had that bit extra to keep with him.

"He did well and we kept them quiet on the wing.''

Cooper, who has scotched reports he has offered a six-month contract to former St Mirren and Dunfermline defender Scott Walker, added: "If we get an older head in, the two lads will learn from him and it will help bring them on.

"They are both still learning the game and some experience would be a help for everyone, but it's about finding the right player.''

Striker Marcus Richardson last night completed his free transfer to Lincoln.

Pool had agreed to let the striker turn his loan deal into a permanent transfer without a transfer fee being paid, but Lincoln claimed Pool's insistence on additional payments if The Imps reach the play-offs, or are promoted this season, were threatening the deal.

However, Richardson, who has taken a pay cut to move to Sincil Ban, completed the transfer after Lincoln revealed the only additional clause to the deal is a sell-on clause entitling Pool to a percentage of any future transfer fee.

* Pool's reserve game with Boston tomorrow has been switched to Victoria Park.
