A MILITARY policeman who was killed while serving in Iraq is to have his name on a war memorial where his wife and young son live.
Warrant Officer Colin Wall will be remembered alongside scores of others who died serving their country.
Plans are under way to add his name to the memorial at St Laurence's Church, in Middleton One Row, near Darlington, where his wife, Trish, lives with their one-year-old son, Alex.
WO Wall, 34, Sergeant Major of 150 Provost Company, was killed in an ambush in August, only six weeks into a four-month tour of duty in Iraq.
His parents, Joan and Barry Wall, of Crook, County Durham, are happy with the plan, especially for the sake of Alex and his two other children, Robert and Lauren, from a previous marriage.
Mrs Wall said: "It is so nice, especially for his children, two of whom live down South but will be coming up in the summer.
"As I get a little bit stronger every day, emotionally, I think this will be something for us to remember him by. Amid all this grief, we really are very proud of him."
WO Wall's name has also been added to a memorial at St Thomas' Church, in Stanhope, County Durham, where he grew up.
An oak tree has been planted in his memory at his former school, and his family plan to place a seat where he used to love to walk in the Weardale hills.
Parish councillors at Middleton St George approved having his name added to the memorial at St Laurence's Church and will cover the cost.
They will seek permission from the church to contract a company to carry out the work.
