A SEARCH has begun for young people in Stockton borough whose hard work and efforts make a difference.
Last year, more than 100 young people were rewarded for their efforts at the Stockton Mayor's Achievement Recognition Trophy (Smart) Awards. Each received a certificate and ten received trophies.
This year, parents, friends and teachers are being urged to nominate young people aged up to 19 for the awards.
The awards are decided by a panel of young people from schools across the borough, brought together by Stockton Borough Council's youth service.
One of the judges, Rebecca Baker, 14, a pupil at Ian Ramsey CE School, in Stockton, said: "I know there are lots of young people out there who do special things every day without expecting any recognition for what they do. These awards are a way for people to let them know how much their efforts are appreciated."
There are ten awards categories, ranging from education effort, the arts, special needs and a Young Achiever award for an outstanding achievement by a primary school child or children.
The categories are sponsored by organisations and businesses and the awards are sponsored by tfm radio and the Arc, where the prize-giving ceremony will take place on March 9.
The closing date for nominations is February 16.
Nomination forms will be sent to schools, sports complexes, libraries, youth centres and council buildings next week. They can also be obtained from Stockton Youth Service on (01642) 393482.
