Egglescliffe parish councillors have examined a proposal to extend a cycle route from the town to Stockton.
The plan by consultants White Young Green suggests creating cycle lanes along Muirfield Road and Swinburne Road.
But parish councillors were concerned about the safety of cyclists travelling along Muirfield Road because of the number of traffic junctions.
Councillors also felt that there was a possibility that the routes would be ignored and cyclists would stay on Yarm Road.
It was decided to highlight these issues in a reply to the consultants.
