Sunderland striker Neil Teggart's loan move to Darlington has been put on hold after the highly-rated youngster was injured in training.
The 19-year-old was expected to join Quakers on a month's loan this week.
But Teggart will now remain at the Stadium of Light for at least another week while he recovers from a hamstring injury, picked up in training on Monday.
With just one goal in their last six games and the club four points adrift in the relegation zone, Quakers boss David Hodgson is keen to add to his attacking options after Lee Matthews returned to Bristol City.
Teggart has represented Northern Ireland at Under-19 level and was top scorer for Sunderland Under-19s last season.
The Downpatrick-born forward was promoted to the Sunderland first-team squad this season but has yet to make an appearance for Mick McCarthy's men.
"It's a shame because we've heard a lot of good things about Neil," said Hodgson.
"I spoke to Mick McCarthy this morning and he's very highly thought of at Sunderland.
"We're still confident of bringing the lad to the club but it might not be for another week."
Craig James returned to the Stadium of Light this week after spending two-months on loan at the Reynolds Arena.
James is out of contract at the end of the season and is reported to be a target for an unnamed Second Division club.
Teggart will be Quakers' first signing since they went into administration three weeks ago and the move has been made possible after a town businessman offered to pay Teggart's wages.
The loss of Matthews, who yesterday moved on a month-long loan deal to Bristol Rovers, and the delay in Teggart's arrival could hand Mark Sheeran a rare chance as second-bottom Quakers head to Kidderminster this weekend.
Sheeran recently returned from a successful loan spell at Whitby Town and will be hoping to force his way into Hodgson's plans, having came on as a second half substitute against Hull on Saturday.
Bristol City boss Danny Wilson allowed Matthews to move to fierce rivals Rovers and revealed: "Darlington wanted to hang on to Lee for another month, but as they are in administration there had to be a question-mark over whether they could come up with the money.
"This move suits everyone. He has returned from Darlington well down the pecking order in terms of selection and he wants first team football.''
