TWO sisters who have undergone major surgery yesterday showed their appreciation for the hospital where they received treatment.
Wendy Risborough and Kim Hebdon presented the renal unit of the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with a cheque for £2,160.
The sisters underwent the kidney operation on November 9 at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and Mrs Risborough was later transferred to the James Cook hospital for dialysis treatment.
The mother-of-two was so ill from a brain haemorrhage and punishing dialysis sessions her family feared she might not survive very long on the waiting list for a kidney.
In a desperate attempt to save her sister, Mrs Hebdon agreed to be tested to see whether she could be a living kidney donor. To the relief of family, doctors at the Freeman Hospital found she was a near perfect match.
About £1,060 was raised after a fundraising day at Yarm's Somerfield supermarket, which donated a further £1,100.
Mrs Hebdon said: "We just wanted to thank the ward where Wendy had her dialysis."
