Shildon manager Ray Gowan surprised fans by leaving 38-goal Garry Barnes out of the starting line up for the home game against Washington last Saturday.
Barnes (pictured) has hit a dry spell recently and Gowan said: "The ball hasn't been running for him recently, and I thought by putting him on the bench and watching the game from there, would help his confidence.
"He's still got bags of ability, and he'll still be handful for defences."
Barnes came on as sub in the game, and hit the woodwork near the end.
