West Auckland general manager Stuart Alderson believes that they need another four wins to avoid relegation.
West have lost just twice in the last seven games under manager Alex Mathie, and are now tenth in the table, after being in the bottom four in November.
But Alderson (pictured) is heartened by recent performances, the most recent being at Penrith last Saturday where West won 2-0.
"I think 42 points is the total to avoid relegation this season, so that means another four wins - and I think we're capable of doing it."
Mathie, who made his name as a striker, was a sweeper on Saturday, and Alderson said: "He played really well, and never wasted a pass on the pitch."
