VILLAGERS have won their campaign for improvements to a listed bridge.
Contractors are to return to work on the Grade II listed structure, following complaints from people living in East and West Ayton, near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, about its restoration.
County Councillor Gavin Williamson, who represents the area, said: "The work that was only supposed to take 12 weeks ended up over running, to take half a year to complete the £180,000 project.
"Following the completion of the work, many residents complained about the delay and the quality of the work."
He said he had organised a meeting between officers of the county council, the agents Mouchel, and residents.
"We have managed to secure agreement that the contractors are going to put right what we feel has not been done to a high enough standard," he said.
"In the summer a specialist stonemason will be doing some additional finishing off, as a result of the complaints."
The council's heritage unit will also be examining the bridge which spans the River Derwent.
