THE region is again planning to pay tribute to women who died in service during the Second World War.
The Women's Air Services Memorial Day at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York, will be held on June 13.
As well as the service, the day will include a flypast by historic aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Retired Air Commodore Cynthia Fowler RAF has accepted an invitation to attend in her official capacity as patron of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) Association. The museum's memorial and garden dedicated to the women of the allied air services will provide the setting for the gathering, which has become increasingly popular over the past three years.
Once again, members of many WAAF Association branches from all over the country will attend and will be joined by Wrens, veterans of the Air Transport Auxiliary and also current servicewomen from the RAF and Army Air Corps.
