A school extension has received a church leader's blessing.
The Right Reverend John Crowley, Roman Catholic Bishop of Middlesbrough, said Mass and dedicated the nursery and reception area at St Thomas More's RC Primary School, Middlesbrough.
The £183,000, Government-funded building supports the work of the Easterside Community Partnership in providing registered and additional out-of-school child care. Two infant classes have also been refurbished, creating a foundation teaching area.
Terry Cane, chairman of the governors, said: "This latest child care initiative is open to the whole community and it is wonderful that the beginning of this new era should be marked by a thanksgiving celebration by the bishop.''
Parent Michelle Lipton said the extension provided a brilliant learning place and the provision of such safe after-school care on site put her mind at rest.
Headteacher Colleen Short said stronger links would be forged with two other local schools and the community.
