A TEAM of policeman and a civilian who saved a woman from a fast-flowing river have been honoured.
The six officers joined a local angler to save the woman from the River Nidd at Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, in June.
Robert Weatherhead was fishing from the bank when he saw the woman in the water, and the officers joined him to create a human chain to rescue her.
Royal Life Saving Society commendations have been awarded to Mr Weatherhead, Sergeant Jason Marchant and PCs Andrew Stow, Francis Pearce, Anthony Harding, Amanda Hill and Peter Fletcher,
At the same ceremony, in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, yesterday, two civilians, Muriel Oates and Margaret James, were awarded certificates of appreciation.
They were out walking when they saw a glider crash at Ellingstring, near Masham, in June, and provided first aid to the injured pilot until 999 crews arrived.
An award also went to June Lindley for her professionalism as a store detective in the Harrogate area.
Area commander commendations were made to Inspector David Porter, Section Officer Robert Elphick, Detective Inspector Patrick Twiggs, DCs John Bosomworth, Amanda Grundy, Michael Richardson, Andrew Eaton, James Glass, Thomas Watson and PCs Paul Cliffe and Christine Turner
Civilian staff Pauline Demaline and John McKeown were given certificates of appreciation.
