YOUNG racing champion James Johnston is looking for a new go-kart to help him collect more trophies.
The 12-year-old go-karter from Ushaw Moor, County Durham, has won 14 trophies in his first season of competitive racing despite breaking his arm.
Backed by Durham County Council, which sponsored him through its Community Initiative Fund for last year's season, James raced his Junior Mini Max kart, which is capable of reaching 80mph on the straight, in events from Scotland to Lincolnshire.
James, who attends Deerness Valley Comprehensive School and is already 6ft, needs a new go-kart to keep him on the title trail.
His mother, Allison, said: "Kart racing soon eats up the money, especially as we had to replace the chassis after a spill in the Stars of the Future British Championship, when James was injured.
"But the success James has had so far and the confidence he has gained has made it worth it.
"Initially, he was not all that keen on karts, but when his brother went to the Maiden Law circuit for a birthday treat, James took a kart out and decided he wanted to drive competitively.
"In the coming season, he hopes to get podium places in championships at Warden Law and other circuits around the region, and ultimately he says he want to become a rally driver."
James is looking for funds to aid his racing ambitions. To help, call his father, John, on 07899 793619.
