ANIMAL rescuers are searching for new homes for dozens of rabbits.
Sally and Dave Rowley, of the Weardale Animal Sanctuary, in Stanhope, County Durham, took in 25 homeless rabbits at the weekend, taking their total to 45.
The rabbits came from another animal refuge in the region which was forced to find them a new home because of a change in the owner's circumstances.
The rabbits, a variety of breeds and aged between six months and two years, are now being cared for at Butterfly World, Tow Law, which is owned by Bruce Banks.
Mrs Rowley said: "They are all lovely animals and would make great pets.
"Someone could take more than one, or they could go to a home to become a companion to existing pets.
"Any potential owners should have a knowledge of animals and be prepared to give them a lot of attention as they are used to being handled.
"That is why they need re-homing as soon as possible. We have volunteers and are grateful for Bruce's help, but we have got a lot of other animals to care for up the dale.
"It is also costing a lot of money. I spent £50 on bedding and that won't even last the week."
Anyone interested in supporting the sanctuary's work or in re-homing a rabbit is asked to call Mrs Rowley on (01388) 526375 or 0781 2804342.
