A SCHOOL has joined forces with an engineering company to give students a taste of mathematics in action.
Graduate trainees from the Cummins factory, in Darlington, will be working with year ten students at Hurworth School Maths and Computing College over the next few weeks.
The trainees introduced themselves to the pupils this week and have arranged for them to visit the factory.
This is the second year of the project, which proved a big success last year.
Brian Hill, head of maths at Hurworth, said: "They will be coming back into school over the next two or three months to work with the kids on a project based around engine testing. It is a maths and statistics project really.
"The reason we are doing it is to try and put what we teach into a wider context, and get some experience of maths being used in the workplace."
It is part of the graduates' training to get involved in working in the community.
