A MAN appeared in court yesterday accused of attacking another man.
Police found Graham Rafferty, 42, unconscious and bleeding from serious head injuries in Langdon Gardens, Catchgate, near Stanley, County Durham, at about 10pm on Sunday.
Mr Rafferty, from nearby Harelaw Gardens, was taken to Durham's University Hospital. He was later moved to Newcastle General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
His condition last night remained critical.
David Passmore, 39, of Langdon Gardens, Catchgate, appeared at Consett Magistrates' Court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody until next Wednesday.
Detectives are still trying to piece together Mr Rafferty's movements between 4pm and 10pm on Sunday.
