Darlington Supporters' Trust is launching a campaign this week to raise a £250,000 crisis fund.
Trust member Tony Taylor said: "I really do believe that there can be a viable future for Darlington Football Club at the new stadium, but it is going to take a lot of hard work and it will have to inspire the whole community."
Trust members have already been collecting funds at matches and on the streets. A collection in the town centre on Saturday brought in more than £1,000.
George Reynolds, who put the club into the hands of administrators, quit as chairman and director at the beginning of last week, severing all ties with the club.
Anyone wanting to donate to the trust should make cheques payable to Darlington Supporters' Trust, c/o 50 Newlands Road, Darlington DL3 9JW. People can join the trust on line at www.thisis thenortheast.co.uk/sport/football.
