A SERVICE offering advice on consumer issues has been launched in Darlington.
The Consumer Support Network, which is the first of its kind in the area, will serve to raise public awareness of fraudulent consumer offers received through the post, by text and e-mail.
The network is a joint venture between Trading Standards, the Citizens Advice Bureau and other local agencies. It has been made possible with £10,000 of funding from the Government's Department of Trade and Industry.
Dawn Fanaku, from the department, attended the launch at Darlington's Art Centre on Tuesday and presented a national overview of the network.
Other speakers, including Ann Kaye, of the Consumer Support Network, gave a more local perspective and explained how the group intended to raise awareness through advertising campaigns, posters and leaflets.
There will be a bus advertising campaign in the coming months and action packs will be available containing advice leaflets and contact numbers.
Any voluntary groups that would like network representatives to visit and speak about consumer rights can contact Darlington Borough Council's Trading Standards Department on (01325) 388582.
