INSPECTORS have praised a Derwentside school, but told teachers that pupils must be encouraged to become more independent.
Leadgate Community Junior School, in Leadgate, near Consett, has been classed as good by Ofsted inspectors.
The report found that staff and governors contributed strongly to its success.
The school was praised for above average results in religious education and for successfully integrating more children with special needs.
Headteacher Jane Cain said: "We will continue to address the issues raised to improve standards and self-confidence in our children."
