SPECIAL patrols are being launched to target anti-social behaviour hot spots in parts of East Cleveland.
Over the coming weeks, Cleveland police's five-strong neighbourhood task group will concentrate its work around Marske, New Marske and Redcar East.
Sgt Dave Sutherland said the aim was to stamp out problems caused by under-age drinking and gangs of youths congregating on the streets.
Residents' meetings will be fully briefed about the operations and Sgt Sutherland said he hoped information about problem areas would be passed on through ward councillors.
He added: "This is an ongoing operation that will involve a lot of partnership work. It is putting people first - the rights of law-abiding people in these communities above the anti-social behaviour of young hooligans.
"Those engaging in anti-social behaviour will be dealt with firmly and, where appropriate, prosecuted. But we will also be working with organisations to help divert these young people to other, safer activities and areas where they can cause no harm."
