Bishop Auckland are worried they have missed out on more cash from their transfer of Jeff Smith to Bolton Wanderers two years ago.

Midfielder Smith went to the Reebok Stadium for an initial £25,000 fee, with more payments linked to appearances. He quickly made five appearances for the Premiership club, to earn Bishops another £5,000, and earlier this month he played twice against Tranmere in the FA Cup to start Bishops on the next sequence of five.

However, Smith has now been loaned out to Third Division Scunthorpe for at least a month, and there appear to be doubts over his future at the Reebok Stadium.

Bishops are due to a cut of any transfer fee, over and above what they have made already on the deal, but it is thought that Smith would have to be transferred for more than £300,000 for that to happen - and that looks highly unlikely.

Bishops have hailed their recent get-together with Peter Beardsley as a huge success. Beardsley spoke to a packed audience in Tindale Crescent WMC last Friday and raised a large amount of money for the club. Vice chairman Tony Duffy said: "It was the best function in terms of support and success that we've had for a considerably long time. The evening has been an immense help for the funds, and we can't thank Peter and Alan Wright enough.

"Hopefully, we'll hold more of these in the future."

Bishops are at home to Burscough on Sunday afternoon in the quarter final of the League Cup, kick off 2pm.

Spennymoor have released striker Anthony Shandran. The former York and Burnley striker was signed by previous manager Alex Mathie last summer, but has been hampered by injuries, and has made only a handful of starts for the club.

The international clearance for defender Paul Talbot arrived earlier in the week from Scotland, allowing Moors to complete his signing, beating Gateshead. Under UEFA rules, Moors had to wait until the January transfer window before they could complete the signing, as the transfer involved two countries. The same state of affairs exists elsewhere in the League between English and Welsh clubs.

Moors' fundraising after the clubhouse was gutted by fire is gathering momentum, and plan to hold a race night and a sponsored walk.

Moors have confirmed their Durham Challenge Cup semi final against Billingham Town will be played on Tuesday, February 3rd, (7.30) at the Brewery Field.

Stalybridge have won their protest to the FA over FA Trophy opponents Leigh RMI playing an ineligible player in the third round. Leigh had used a keeper, who had already played for two other clubs at a lower level this season, but without international clearance. Barnet from the Conference, have also been kicked out for fielding a player who had already played in the competition for a different club.
