Wilton 2nds played host to division two strugglers Morpeth 1sts in what was their first game after the festive break.
Both teams were a little edgy at first but it didn't take long for Wilton to stamp their authority on the game, as they took an early lead through powerful midfielder Bob Leason. Leason added a second before the break from a well worked penalty corner and Wilton looked to be cruising into half time. Morpeth had no reply, possibly showing why they are at the foot of the division, and clearly highlighting man of the match Alan Larder's domination at the back. Glen Cutler added a third for Wilton, giving no hope to Morpeth who simply sat back and looked on as Johnny Couhig fired home a magnificent brace to take the final score to Wilton 5 Morpeth 0.
Wilton 3rds travelled to local rivals Stockton 5ths, both sides featured a mix of youth and experience in what proved to be a very close game. Chances were a plenty for both sides but the game was separated by the single goal in Stockton's favour. Wilton's youngsters have been looking more sure of themselves in recent weeks and will be disappointed to have let this game slip out of their grasp, they battled well particularly in midfield but were just edged out by the experience of the Stockton side.
Wilton ladies league match against Durham University 2nds unfortunately ended in a 3-1 defeat. Both sides battled hard in a competitive first half where very few chances were created. The University side came out strong early in the second half and managed to penetrate the Wilton defence and create several good chances. Despite Wilton's best efforts they soon found themselves 2-0 down, but his spurred them on. Christine Blake fired Wilton back into the game after a superb pass and move build up inspired by player of the match Angela Angell. But Wilton's comeback was to end there The Uni sealed it with a third late in the game.
