FERRYHILL Town Council's Investors in People status has been endorsed after an inspection.
The town council was the first in the North-East, and only the second in the country, to achieve the status three years ago.
A review carried out last year has concluded that the council is continuing to meet the standard, with key strengths including a very strong commitment to staff development and high levels of learning.
A significant amount of work had been done by managers to help staff achieve qualifications. The standard of workplace training was also praised.
Induction for new staff is of the highest quality and the report noted the high quality systems in place to support staff involved in promotion or job change.
The report said: "People across the whole of the interview sample had a good understanding of the links between their own development and how this was impacting on performance at team and organisational levels."
