M'brough PO 4 British Steel Sp 1: Middlesbrough Post Office went back to the top of the table despite the best efforts of British Steel Sports who defied their lowly league position to the Post Office a run for their money particularly in a very even first half.
It took the Posties 30 minutes to breach a resolute British Steel rearguard when John Symon scrambled the ball home from Mark Brydon's centre but five minutes from half time the visitors equalised when Steve Halpin capitalised on a defensive mix up. Sports keeper Patrick Jones caught the eye when he denied Symon from the penalty spot but Post Office continued to press and Symon made amends when he side-footed home. Symon then broke down the right, beat his defender before crossing for Scott Hislop to volley home. Ten minutes from time, the Post Office made absolutely sure of the points when Jamie Duffy set up John Leach who slotted into the back of the net.
South Bank United 4 North Skelton Village 2
North Skelton Village were another side to defy their lowly league position before eventually losing out to South Bank United. Lee Preston finished off a well worked move to put Village ahead on five minutes and it took United another ten minutes before they drew level when a brilliant cross from Peter Renton found the head of John Lodge who finished the move off well. Lodge then headed home a second goal this time getting on the end of a centre from United's man of the match Mark Jahan but Village drew level just before half time when Glen Davison's shot ended up in the back of the net. The start of the second period saw Jahan twice hitting the woodwork before the player struck a well placed corner kick for Terry McCloughlin to restore United's advantage. North Skelton Village never gave up the chase however and it was not until five minutes from time that Lodge completed his hat trick from the penalty spot to put the game beyond their reach.
Arthur Reed Memorial Shield semis
Kings Head 2 St Mary's College OB 1
This season's Arthur Reed Shield will see King's Head taking on Ennis Square in the final at Guisborough's King George V ground following last weekend's semi-finals. King's Head had by far the harder task with St. Mary's College giving as good as they were getting and taking the lead ten minutes into the game when Mark Elliott skipped past his marker and cleverly chipped the keeper from 18 yards out. Kings Head came back strongly forcing the College on the backfoot and with ten minutes remaining in the first half a disputed free kick was met at the back post by Gary Round who gave the keeper no chance. Twelve minutes from time, King's Head got the vital breakthrough when Gary Round's cross fell to Paul Round who beat two players before notching.
Ennis Square SC 9 PJS FC 0
Ennis Square gave up home advantage so the game could go ahead at Sandy Flatts. They avenged their recent league defeat at the hands of PJS with Steve Gent setting them on their way when he ran at the keeper and drove his shot into the net. Ennis's second came when Wayne Gent rounded the keeper before hammering the ball home. Ennis ended the half leading 4-0 after Stewart Clarke had broken from deep to go one on one with keeper and unleash a terrific shot, and then Clarke turned provider, setting Gent up for a terrific second goal. Injury forced PJS FC to change at the break with Paul Housam stepping in to fill the breach and initially, PJS with wind advantage immediately pressed in an attempt to get back into the game. Some brilliant interplay between Gent and Wayne Skelton however ended with Clarke powering the ball home into the net to make it 5-0. PJS FC had the chance to get some reward for their efforts when they were awarded a penalty but it was not to be their day as the penalty attempt went wide of the post. Stephen Gent and Clarke combined for Gent to make it six before Wayne Gent struck twice in quick succession. Clarke capped a great performance by netting goal with five minutes remaining.
Wilf Leader Trophy semi-finals
Woodmans Arms 6 NS Bulls Head 2
A battling Bull's Head side gave the Woodman's Arms a run for their money with only Geoff Maloney's goal separating the sides at the interval. Within a minute of the restart however, Paul Ritchie played a one two with Paul Reid before firing into the bottom corner of the net. Bull's fell further behind when Reid cut in from the wing before firing home and Maloney scored his second of the game on the hour mark. Guy Young pulled one back for the Bulls minutes later but Reid responded when he headed home the rebound after a twenty five yard volley from substitute Andy Parkes had produced only a partial save from the Bull's keeper. Bull's Daniel Cox slid in to give the scoreline a semblance of respectability for Bull's second goal before Reid squared the ball to Mick Kavanagh to round off a fine Woodman's performance.
Thornaby Village 0 Linx Hemlington 5
Woodmans will meet Linx Hemlington in the final after their comfortable win at Thornaby. The Village side did well in the opening half to keep the scoreline goalless but after the break, Linx turned on the pressure. Mark Salvati did the most damage hitting a hat-trick while Gary Smith and Chris Agiadis both contributed with a goal apiece.
