STUDENTS are to perform an adaptation of a TV series about would-be actors.
Fame, the story of students at a performing arts school in New York, will be staged by Durham University Light Opera Group (Dulog) at the city's Gala Theatre.
A Gala spokesman said: "Fame tells the story of the young hopefuls trying to make it big in the world of music and showbiz."
Links between the students and the theatre are growing. Luke Gasper, who played Prince Charming in the pantomime Cinderella, is president of Dulog and teaches youngsters at the Gala Theatre Stage School.
Also involved with the stage school are Tom Kelly, the musical director of Fame, and producer Ed Bowness.
Mr Bowness said: "It is great to combine helping out with the stage school and working on our own production.
"We are now firmly established within the community framework of the theatre.''
Fame is staged at 7.30pm from Tuesday to next Saturday, with a 2.30pm matinee on Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets are £11.50, available on 0191-332 4041.
