Michael Brown has won a seal of approval from his Tottenham midfield team-mates Darren Anderton and Simon Davies.

The Hartlepool-born former Sheffield United player made his debut in Spurs' 2-1 win over Liverpool at White Hart Lane, and looked a transfer window bargain at £500,000.

Anderton played alongside him in a central role and said: ''Michael is a very good midfielder and does a little bit of everything in there.

''He loves to get forward, loves a tackle, works hard and plays for the team - exactly the sort of player you want in the team.

''I think it worked quite well at the weekend and hopefully, if we played that way again, it will work the same way.''

Anderton added: ''I saw of lot of him on the box from Sheffield United's cup runs last season, for me he was their best player and it's nice to have him at the club.''

Wales international Davies played on the left of Brown and he added: ''I thought Michael played really well against Liverpool. He is very competitive and everyone has said we've missed that.

''He snaps into the tackles and he's good to play alongside. He didn't let the likes of Dietmar Hamann and Danny Murphy settle and even in training, he loves a tackle. It's something we need out there.''

The return of Davies from a hip injury has been a key factor in Tottenham's 100 per cent run in the Premiership since the turn of the year and he is feeling stronger with every game.

''I've played three games now since returning from injury and I'm getting the aches and pains you'd expect, it's run of the mill after a spell out of the game,'' said Davies.

''I'm happy with how my match fitness is coming along, I've felt better and better after every game and with a few more games, I'll be back to where I want to be.''

Tottenham's next challenge is an FA Cup clash away at Manchester City on Sunday and Davies said: ''They are a dangerous side, similar to ourselves, very good on the break and always looking to play attacking football.

''They snapped out of their run by beating Leicester in their replay so it will be difficult.

"But the way we're playing, if we can go up there and play the way we did against Leeds, contain and play on the break, we'll have a chance.

''Again, it's confidence. Look around training and the lads have a spring in their step. It's not as easy when you are down but when everyone was having a pop at us, we stuck together."
