European funding may be sought to move Darlington cattle mart from its residential site.
The area's representatives on Darlington Borough Council are to investigate what financial help may be available to relocate the mart from Clifton Road.
Park East ward councillors Cyndi Hughes, Joe Lyonette and Glen Reynolds have written to 300 residents in the area asking for their views on the mart.
It follows complaints about vehicles, exhaust fumes and animal excrement and urine on roads.
