A PRIMARY school and its local community are celebrating the completion of new facilities thanks to a Government-funded initiative.
Dormanstown Primary School, in Dormanstown, near Redcar, has benefited from a new library, creche and multi-sensory area, art room, hall, and an outside play area thanks to a successful bid for money from the Space for Sports and Arts initiative in October 2000.
The funding has also paid for a new administration centre and headteacher's office, as well as a new entrance and reception.
The facilities are already being used by the school during the day and by the local community for clubs such as dance and percussion.
The ongoing project will also see rooms in the existing building refurbished, as well as the restocking of the library and the addition of further computers.
Assistant headteacher Helen Owen said: "The new building provides the school and local community with opportunities to develop both sports and the arts, the potential of which is limited only by imagination.
"The staff and pupils are already using the spaces for a wide variety of activities.
"The children have even helped to make a beautiful glass panel, which has already been installed."
