Blaze hero Ernie Robinson is to become Godfather to the unborn baby whose life he saved.

Ernie, 58, has picked up a fire brigade bravery award after saving mum-to-be Natasha Sanderson and her niece Erin, now four, from a house blaze in Marley Pots, Sunderland.

Natasha, 21, has since given birth to baby Naven and has asked Ernie to be godfather when the youngster is Christened alongside Erin later this year.

Natasha says that without Ernie, she and her son wouldn't have survived and to add to the celebrations, she will wed Naven's dad Christopher Longstaff, 22 this summer.

The delighted mum said: "If it wasn't for Ernie, I wouldn't have been here and neither would Erin and I wouldn't have Naven.

"Ernie is a very brave man. He led two people from that house but saved three lives, this is a fitting way to say thankyou."
