LEISURE centre staff proved to be good sports when they persuaded their council chiefs to stump up £800 to help disabled bowlers.
A wheelchair bought by Sedgefield Borough Council for bowlers at Sunnydale Leisure Centre means that all players will be able to start their games on level terms.
The chair, which was designed for the sport, was bought with indoor bowls club member Peter Graham in mind.
He uses it at least once a week in friendly and club league matches and enjoys the extra independence it gives him.
Sunnydale manager Derek Snowball said: "It is available for all players, but Peter is making good use of it. It means he can hold his own with any of the other bowlers. He really enjoys his games.
"We were sent a letter from his doctor and took it to our leisure services department who were able to find the money."
Peter said: "The chair is ideal for me and I can't thank everyone enough for making it all possible.
